On February 11, 2007 special prayer service and candle light vigil was held at Debre Selam Medhane Alem Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, for “Free Our Leaders” campaign project. Kinijit support group in Minnesota in collaboration with Kinijit International and a number of community activists organized the event. Large number of Ethiopian residents of the Twin cities attended the candle light vigil and prayer at Debre Selam Medhane Alem Church, despite the frigid cold of the day. Many local political activists and Human Right advocate various organizations attended the event. The Board Church person Ato Zewede Hailu addressed the gathering and spoke the gross violation of human rights and lack of justice Ethiopia. He reminded the audience that an assault on democracy and justice has become a daily occurrence of Ethiopian political landscape. He told the audiences that the current jailed Kinijit leaders are accomplished and recognized academicians and human rights advocates. Their only crime is their dedication for the life for democratic empowerment of the Ethiopian people. He remanded the audience that it the solemn duty of every peace loving Ethiopian to vigorously participate in all forms of campaign to bring an end the era of mass political imprisonment, corruption and ethnocracy in Ethiopia.
